The Jewish roots of Christianity

Highlighting: OFF ON

Myles & Katharine Weiss

Dear Friends,

As we head towards the season of Purim (beginning on the evening of March 7), I am struck by the consistent, preserving power of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (whom God renamed “Israel”). Generation to generation, God preserves the Jewish people and accomplishes His will through us (and sometimes in spite of us!). It is a great place of comfort, finding rest in His authority. Katharine and I spoke at a church in a neighboring city one recent Sunday. On the way there, we memorized Psalm 121:

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Needless to say, we were “windblown” by the Holy Spirit as we entered the building to bring the Word. We were kept aloft by the living verses that rehearse the goodness of God and His commitment to Israel and all Believers. As the days progress and darkness increases in the world, what a comfort to know that He is in charge. This is the message we brought to that fellowship. We reminded them to stand with Israel and rejoice in the sovereign God. His eye is on the sparrow. His eye is on you.

God is SO sovereign that the Old Testament is peppered with “pictures” and “shadows” of Jesus. In the February 2012 Levitt Letter (p.1), Katharine described the shadows of Yeshua in the story of Esther. His picture is found in the lives of King David, Ruth, Jonah, Joseph, and others.

Only God could know the future down to the smallest detail. Just as only He could have delivered His people from Haman, Herod, Hitler, and will from Hamas. Even as the modern Haman—Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad—plots to “wipe Israel off the map,” God is planning a stunning deliverance that will shock the world. We can follow the arc of His dealings with His chosen people and know that He will come through. Beginning with Abraham we see the hand of God at work through history:

  1. The Choosing (Gen 12:1–3)
He calls out this man and makes incredible promises to him and his descendants. If you are a non-Jew, you can participate in these by faith in the Messiah, Jesus.
  2. The Blessing (Gen 12–22)
These chapters tell the family history of the Abrahamic line.
  3. The Bringing into the Land (Josh 1)
We see the Land, as promised, given to the Israelites. Make no mistake, the land covenant is very much a part of the promise!

  4. Ben-Gurion signs the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948.
The Scattering (Deut 28:64 warns us, Ezekiel 36:19 describes it, Ezekiel 6:8 and other verses promise the restoration.) 586 BC Israel into Babylon, 70 AD—considered by some to be the 1st Holocaust—Israel destroyed by Rome, 1099 the Crusades, 1492 the Spanish Inquisition, 1800s the European pogroms, and 1930s the European Holocaust. This harsh history reveals a confluence between Israel’s disobedience and the world’s overly harsh chastisement.
  5. The Ingathering (Isaiah 66:8)
“Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion was in labor, She gave birth to her children.” On May 14, 1948, the Jewish Agency declares the reborn State of Israel. (The U.S. was the first nation to recognize Israel. See www.levitt.com/newsletters/2010-06.pdf, p.9)
  6. The Restoration
This is in process. Look at the communities in Judea and Samaria (which Muslims call the “West Bank”) and you will see amazing visions of resurrected land and planted people. This is the biblical heartland promised to Abraham and his descendants. Amos 9:11–15 tells us that the Jews are “never to be uprooted again!”

  7. Old City Zion’s Gate 1948
    The Redemption (Romans 11:25–27)
We read of the coming mystery: “For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved as it is written: The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob. For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.

This redemption is in its “first fruits” stage, as a Messianic remnant is alive and well in the land. The Jewish Believers keep Israel on track for its redemption. We will see more and more Jews coming to Messiah as the Day of His Appearing approaches.

The other day, I received a fascinating call. A Jewish Believer whom I have had the privilege of discipling (he has grown very fast and has favor wherever he travels) called me from his aging parents’ home. They are 91 and 94 years old, and they watched attentively as he showed them our Zola Levitt Presents program, “The Kings of the Earth Look Up.” As they watched our show, they allowed him to pray for them; they are teetering on the edge of salvation. That is fruit for your investment in Zola Levitt Ministries.

If you have not seen it yet, I hope you’ll look for our television coverage of the recent economic trials in Greece and the way that the “headlines are catching up to the Bible.” I like to use that phrase to illustrate the eternal nature of God’s Word in relation to the shifting sands of world events. His Word is forever, and science, politics, and cultures are eventually measured by their adherence to or obfuscation of God’s Word. In Athens, the monetary system was failing and the people were looking for a “superhero” to “save” them. That’s exactly how the antiChrist will appear—as a “superhero” to “save” the people! We filmed these remarkable events. That program The Kings of the Earth Look Up is on the air as I write this, and is available on www.levitt.tv.

Another nugget for my wife and me was the privilege of re-introducing Zola’s series The Holy Days of Our Lord. He was a great teacher, and the Feasts are a timeless wealth of revelation. You will be blessed to learn the Messianic view of the mandated Moedim (appointed times) found in Leviticus 23. Zola also filmed his teachings on the extra-biblical holidays of Hanukkah and Purim. Dayenu (“it would have been enough”) but we included a program of Zola’s original music, which is an added treasure. The programs we’re broadcasting in March include the following:

PENTECOST

Zola teaching near Jerusalem
Zola explains that when Christ told His disciples to wait until the power of the Lord came, the Jews were anxiously anticipating the celebration of Shavuot. 3,000 were saved the day the Spirit fell upon the seekers—the same number as was lost when Moses came down with the Law. We hear the different perspectives of an observant Rabbi and a Messianic Believer.
TRUMPETS
Zola teaches on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, as a day of celebration and merriment. It is also a time when the seriousness of sin begins to weigh on the hearts of the Jewish people. We see how the ceremonial horns—shofars—are made. Tim LaHaye gives us his insights as to what will happen at the sound of the last trumpet.
DAY OF ATONEMENT
From the Mount of Olives, Zola tells us about Yom Kippur. Once a year, the priest entered into the presence of God in the Holy of Holies. Here, a sacrifice was made for the sins of the entire nation. We show you a recreation of the Tabernacle located in Timna Park, near Eilat.
TABERNACLES

Myles & Katharine in Old City
Standing next to a sukkah (booth), Zola explains how the mood in Israel changes from a solemn occasion of judgment to one of celebration and merriment. Chuck King tells us about the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem plans for its yearly celebration at Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.
PURIM / HANUKKAH
From the giant Menorah by the Israeli Knesset (Parliament), Zola recalls the Book of Esther as well as the New Testament references to the Festival of Lights, rededicating the Temple. We hear the testimony of a natural-born Israeli whose life changed dramatically when he found his Messiah.

Watch for another upcoming television series, Acts: Then and Now … the Story Continues. It details the life of the believing community from its birth in Jerusalem, through Paul’s unparalleled preaching in the known world, and into today. Viewers will experience on-site teaching and cogent, insightful interviews with the Body of Messiah in Israel. It was a personal joy for Katharine and me to showcase the living Body and honor our friends who are paying the price to minister on the front lines (at the “finish line”).

Page 10 of the March Levitt Letter announced that Zola Levitt Presents will no longer air on the ION Network (formerly PAX). We were one of the few remaining Christian programs since its evangelical founder, Lowell “Bud” Paxson, sold the network years ago. ION’s filing for bankruptcy in 2009 marked a continuing decline in its increasingly secular program lineup. The plethora of infomercials and blocks of aged reruns adversely affected our viewership.

Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs in Hebron (Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, and Leah)

Now for the good news. Beginning March 7, we’ve acquired a fine, additional time on the Daystar Network: Wednesday nights at 11:00 (ET), 10:00 (CT), 9:00 (MT), and 8:00 (PT). This new timeslot nicely complements our existing slot, which remains intact: Friday afternoons at 6:00 (ET), 5:00 (CT), 4:00 (MT), and 3:00 (PT). You may want to record both weekly episodes since they will differ from each other.

Our farthest-reaching network, ABC-Family (ABC-FAM), has 1,200 affiliates. Anyone with cable or satellite should be able to record our program there, very late on Sundays and very early on Mondays. Everyone with Internet access, of course, can “tune in” Zola Levitt Presents at www.levitt.tv. Many new television sets have ports on the back for wiring them to the Internet. It’s possible that ministries like ours will someday do all of their “broadcasting” on the Internet rather than television! “The times they are a-changin’.”

Here at ZLM, we are branching out into social media and marshaling ministry dollars to achieve the greatest impact possible. This challenging economic era is not a time for you or us to withhold, but rather a time to “go for it” with all that we have. Our ministry depends on you to partner with us, both in prayer and monetarily.

Though contributions have declined during recent years, ZLM has improved already high production standards. You’ve witnessed our exemplary quality both on television and in our monthly newsletter. We hope that you who can lend a hand will do so on an ongoing basis. That way we, as an evangelical team, can continue to deliver anointed and captivating Bible teaching.

Your messenger,
Myles

P.S. We are very grateful for your partnership. Together, we increase our effectiveness. Together, we can fulfill the mandate of our Lord to preach the Gospel to all nations. We can also restore the “Jewishness” of Jesus as a lasting witness to the Jewish people and as a wake-up call to the Church and the world.
