The Jewish roots of Christianity

Highlighting: OFF ON

Myles & Katharine Weiss

Dear Friend,

Greetings in the Name above all names. As I write this letter to you, the Hanukkah and Christmas celebrations have passed and the Gregorian New Year is under way. 2015 brings us one year closer to the Messianic Age.

We need Him! “Olam hazeh” (this world) only makes sense in light of “olam ha-ba” (the world to come). In the words of the Shabbat song, He is “Adon olam asher malach (THE Lord of the universe) Who reigned before anything was created.”

Today’s news headlines can only be truly understood in light of biblical Scriptures. The confusion of current events becomes intelligible when the Word of God illuminates them as a lamp shines in darkness.

More than ever, world history is “His story” from the promise of Eden to the Revelation future. When the template of the Bible is applied to man’s brief sojourn on Earth, we see that redemption and relationship reside in the heart of God.

Amazing changes are taking place in the hearts of Church leaders. Each day the importance of Israel and the Jewish people becomes a central concern for many of God’s key servants. Those of us who are Jewish disciples of Yeshua rejoice in the next wave of cooperation between the international Church and the Messianic Believers. This is music to our souls—Katharine and I have been “beating that drum” for almost two decades. The Body of Christ needs the historical and biblical wisdom of Jewish believers in Yeshua, and they, the Messianics, need the strength and support of the Church at large.

We are one in Messiah, as I wrote in An Epic Love Story, the study booklet available online at store.levitt.com/ELS.

Some Christian leaders, though they are solid supporters of Israel, have been unwilling to also stand with the Jewish believers in Jesus. For various reasons, they have been bold to awaken the largely gentile Church to Israel’s significance, but stop short of identifying with those of us “born-again” Jews who follow our Messiah.

I thank God for leaders who staunchly push back against anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism, and Replacement Theology. Bible teachers like John Hagee, for example, challenge the Church to stand with Israel.

However, I have longed for the movement that is about to break forth worldwide. In fact, it is beginning in Jerusalem (“Vat den, ver else?” my grandma might opine). It is a bold, new—yet ancient—paradigm, which acknowledges the mutuality of what Rav Shaul (the Apostle Paul) calls the “one new man” in Ephesians 2:

14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace…

The Lord underscores this tenet of unity to prepare us for the coming King. Jews and gentiles (non-Jews) worshiping the God of Israel together!

The newly formed Fellowship of Israel Related Ministries (FIRM) encourages Church leaders to support life-giving Messianic ministries and authentic Arab Christian ministries through prayer, deeper relationships, and financial generosity. Katharine and I serve on the Board with Jack Hayford, Jonathan Bernis, Wayne Hilsden, Samuel Rodriguez, Mitch Glaser, Eitan Shishkoff, and others. Jews and gentiles together… a high honor. ZLM is a solid example of an authentic, life-giving Messianic ministry that merits and depends on your ongoing prayer and financial support.

Katharine and I learned the successful pattern of educating both the Jewish and gentile stewards of Yeshua’s message “on the road,” in the years leading up to our association with Zola Levitt Ministries. When we hosted Christian leaders on tours to Israel, we routinely witnessed a spiritual progression as scales fell from their eyes (Acts 9:18):

  • First, the Lord dealt with whatever replacement theology they had adopted and alerted them to the present tense understanding of Romans 9–11.
  • Second, they awakened to the spiritual rewards of moving from tolerating Jewish life to celebrating their new understanding of the Hebraic view of the Bible. Without having to become legalistic, these leaders came to appreciate the roots of the Christian faith.
  • Finally, some of them grasped my teaching: when in Israel, we should not only “see the ancient rocks but also meet the living stones.” Pastors began to seek relationship with the Body of Messiah in Israel—Jewish and gentile followers of Christ. A life verse for Katharine and me, from Galatians 6, now lives in them:

10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Patterson

As a part of our work in Northern California, Katharine and I serve Beit Abba. This intimate congregation of Jewish and gentile Believers gathers as the Jewish ministry of The Father’s House (TFH), a thriving organization of 5,000 Believers on three campuses. Pastor Dave Patterson (inset right) “got the download” several years ago and asked us to lead Beit Abba, which is Hebrew for The Father’s House. TFH had been involved in Israel through some fervent congregants, but Pastor Dave approached us, knowing it had become time to accomplish more toward The Great Commission.

Morris

Pastor Patterson “heard” in a new way the decree of Genesis 12:1–3 from Pastor Robert Morris (r) author of The Blessed Life and leader of Gateway Church in Dallas, Texas.

ZLM supporters like you know the passage quite well:

1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.

2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.

3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Pastor Morris states unequivocally that God blesses Gateway because his ministry gives the first fruits of its budget to Israel. Pastor Dave has adopted this same practice at The Father’s House. We also hear about other congregations experiencing the power of blessing what God says to bless. Part of the FIRM initiative will extend a “1%” invitation to churches: to donate the first percent of their budget to Jewish ministries, especially those in Israel. This policy epitomizes the admonition that Paul gave to the Roman Believers in Romans 15:

25 But now I am going to Jerusalem to minister to the saints.

26 For it pleased those from Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are in Jerusalem.

27 It pleased them indeed, and they are their debtors. For if [non-Jews] have been partakers of [Jews’] spiritual things, [non-Jews’] duty is also to minister to [Jews] in material things.

As one pastor told beloved Messianic music minister Paul Wilbur while offering him very generous financial support, “We want the blessing!”

You, faithful readers, also know this inspirational calling from your ongoing relationship with ZLM. Hashem (God) wants to bless us Believers as we support life-giving, truth-telling Jewish ministries.

Katharine and I agree with Zola’s observation: “A trip to Israel is worth more than ten years of Sunday School.” We would be delighted to host you in the Land of Covenant.

LaHaye

Please pray for our various television projects. Two are now in post-production: Zion Forever (God has not forsaken Israel) and Joseph (shadows of Jesus in the Old Testament). In addition, this spring, we are scheduled to film a powerful end-times series—Times of the Signs—that will include new interviews with Dr. Tim LaHaye and other Bible scholars. Be sure to see these new TV series on prophecy fulfilled and still-to-come.

This month, our weekly television program Zola Levitt Presents concludes Israel in Prophecy, the popular eight-part series that addresses the very human need to understand the supernatural. Our interviews with key leaders in the prophecy movement will equip ZLP viewers to discern and exercise their authority under Christ in combatting the “wiles of the enemy” as Ephesians 6 exhorts.

The final Israel in Prophecy programs, which you can see in February (and on-demand at www.levitt.tv), are:

Where is America in Bible Prophecy?
Viewers hear from Christian leaders about the U.S.’s role in end-times prophecy. Guests include Mark Hitchcock, Daymond Duck, Terry James, Jerry Robinson, Wilfred Hahn, and Chuck Missler. A program theme: preparing for changes in the American economy and lifestyle.
Aliens Among Us
This addresses a subject often ignored today. The modern UFO movement has ancient and demonic roots. We discuss extraterrestrials and the Nephilim of Gen. 6. Guests include Gary Bates, Douglas Hamp, Doc Marquis, and L.A. Marzulli.
Bill Salus and August Rosado
Bill Salus discusses three future wars: the Arab-led war mentioned in Psalm 83, the Gog and Magog war, and Armageddon. August Rosado speaks against Replacement Theology and the nuclear arrangement with Iran, and looks toward the day when Jesus reigns from Jerusalem.
Israel, the East, and the End of the World
Instead of living in anticipation, the Church downplays Bible prophecy, leaving many Christians clueless about God’s plan for Israel. Meanwhile, the Nations turn against the Jewish state. Guests include Don Perkins, Randall Price, Terry James, and Andy Woods.

As you know, it is expensive and time consuming to create consistently high-quality television programs like these. We appreciate your gifts of funds, which help us continue to awaken the world to Yeshua’s important message of salvation and our Lord’s eternal concern for Israel. In that spirit, please Sha’alu shalom Yerushalayim!—“Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem!” (Psalm122:6)

Your brother and messenger,
Myles Myles

P.S. For Jewish Believers, the new FIRM initiative from Jerusalem, described above, represents a new day of cooperation with the international Church… Hallelujah!

“Here is my contribution for February. Please use it as needed, particularly to complete the 3 TV series you mention.”

An Epic Love Story

“An Epic Love Story” study booklet

The God of love is a matchmaker who desires a Bride for His Son, the Bridegroom of Heaven. This Bride, the Church, will consist of both Jews and gentiles. Yeshua’s sacrifice enables gentiles to be grafted into the life of Israel and share in the promises of God. Understanding the role of Israel, God’s timepiece, is crucial to preparing for the Lord’s return.

Raptured

“Raptured” book

The Rapture of the Church, discussed in full, with relevant Scriptures. The various views of when it might happen are presented in an evenhanded debate about which seems most correct.

Sons of Promise—Isaac & Jacob

“Sons of Promise—Isaac & Jacob” video

This series recounts the history of Abraham’s sons—Isaac and Jacob—to confirm God’s eternal covenant with the Children of Israel to this day.
