Dear Friends,

I’m beginning to think that CNN is a far more dangerous enemy of Israel than the Palestinians and the Arab nations combined. It is so obviously biased in favor of Arafat and his hordes of stone-throwers (and riflemen) that it is called a “laughingstock” by Jerusalem Report columnist Ze’ev Chafets.

But there was nothing funny about the story that was broadcast on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Purporting to report a news story from Israel, CNN followed a radical group of Israeli peaceniks whose sympathy for the Palestinians and animosity for their own nation place them in the category of what used to be called traitors. All democracies suffer from self-critics, and ours is no exception, but I don’t suppose there are 100 Jews in the whole world who think so little of Israel and so much of her enemies as the strange people CNN somehow dug up to interview (or paid to interview).

Actually, CNN is not alone in painting a ludicrous picture of Israel attacking unarmed civilians with tanks, helicopters and artillery out of pure hatred for the Arabs in the land. But the fact is, I’ve never met an Israeli who hates the Arabs; rather, they are perplexed by the Arabs’ behavior, especially on the issue of making peace. And of course, heavy weaponry is used only against empty buildings to retaliate for Palestinians killing Israelis (a fact typically unreported by CNN) and only after warnings to all individuals on site hours in advance (which is never reported by CNN).

While our sister democracy and valued ally, Israel, has many American enemies—The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Dallas Morning News, National Public Radio, PBS Television, and all of the other networks—CNN stands almost alone in blasting Israel day and night.

We at this ministry are going to try to do something about it. You may laugh when you consider a little TV program that is broadcast at the oddest hours by the most minor networks taking on a giant like CNN, but believe it or not, we wield some influence in this nation. Broadcasting to over a million people per week, we keep pounding the truth home with plenty of evidence, eyewitness reports, testimony from those involved, and, of course, the Scriptures. CNN’s problem is actually a spiritual one; they are being used to help bring on the End Times.

Nothing could be simpler to realize than the fact that the world media (I should include the British Broadcasting Corporation as a competitive colleague of CNN’s in trashing Israel) will be instrumental in focusing world hatred against tiny Israel. To be very frank, this was a point in prophecy that had eluded me until recently. I couldn’t imagine why all the nations, every one in the world, would be concerned about a democracy of five or six million people bothering no one and in an obscure corner of the Middle East. I couldn’t fathom why they would march great armies to that small nation and conduct the battle of Armageddon there, even though the valley of the same name is situated right there.

It didn’t seem reasonable until I noted the power and tenacity of the media in stirring up such scorn at what I still consider a perfectly innocent nation. The lunacy of CNN’s stories, like the one mentioned above, and the other lies being broadcast day after day about the small-scale, localized rioting going on have had another effect of making tiny Israel seem dangerous and aggressive. Somehow, this relative handful of people is going to take over the Arab world, and then the rest of the whole world!

Only in an insane situation like that of the End Times (as described thoroughly by our Lord in Matthew 24) could such a scenario of world-despising of a tiny nation take place, but I think we are seeing the method in use now. And in this ministry, such as it is, we are not going to take it lying down.

This year, we’re going to cover Israel as we never have before, and we’re going to bring back pictures that are going to give the lie to all these propaganda broadcasts. Just as we did with our series, This Is Israel! we’re going to go back and forth in the land, almost like commuters if necessary, to show: 1) that very little in the way of hostilities is occurring in Israel—no more so than on an average day in New York City; 2) what a clean, modern, peaceful nation the Jewish people of Israel have constructed; and 3) we will tell all of those in the churches and especially in the seminaries that God is moving in Israel every day, and it’s time to turn our attention to that land. I am still nonplussed by the fact that a seminary can teach that the Kingdom will start very soon (perhaps in seven years) and that we’re all going to live in Israel for a thousand years after that, and yet ignore all teachings about Israel and all observations of what is going on there today.

Will you help us, please? I anticipate that we’re simply going to need more funding for location programs in the Holy Land during this year than ever before. You can see the obvious reasons for this plan, and I hope you will pray for it and support it fully. At year’s end, people with ministries make heartfelt appeals for funds, and that is the nature of operating in a businesslike fashion in today’s world. But I really don’t like fund-raising, as you can tell from our programs and our newsletters. I simply ask you straightforwardly to support what is perhaps the most important Christian work in the world today: the honoring of the Promised Land and God’s plans for that wonderful country.

As I remind you on television, the Scriptures teach, “How shall they preach except they be sent?” (Romans 10:15). Send us, and we’ll preach!

Zola

P.S. In the testimonials section of www.goisrael.com, Israel tourist Dr. Ray Freeman writes, “Our people saw firsthand a staged rock-throwing incident right outside the hotel that ended up on CNN two days later and was nothing like depicted. Our tour days were full, fun, and a great experience…. Six pastors with us said they would encourage their people to plan a trip.”
