Dear Friend:

I am so appalled by the decision of the Presbyterian Church USA to divest from Israel. There is actually a long history of a kind of “dual Christianity” since the coming of the Lord. We have, on the one hand, a “remnant,” as Scripture specifies, of true believers who always follow Christ, and who read the Bible faithfully. But, on the other hand, we have much less faithful denominations that do neither of those things.

The Scofield Bible divides Christianity into two parts: The professing church and the confessing church. Obviously, some merely profess a faith in Jesus Christ, while the true remnant “confesses with their mouths” — a real belief. In the Middle Ages, for example, the predominant denomination was Roman Catholic, but it was so shot through with only professing members, that it created terrible excesses, such as the Crusades and the horrible Spanish Inquisition. In both cases, real believers, confessing Christians, were among the victims. At the same time, the Lord’s true remnant held fast until the Reformation, when serious Bible study really began.

Even today, there is a clear distinction between mistaken “professors” and believing “confessors.” We believing people, who read the Scriptures and attend evangelical churches, need to be careful of how we refer to ourselves. The term “believers” is a good one, but I recently saw an excellent book review with the term “Bible Christians.” The reviewer was trying to differentiate those Christians of the third world from the professors like the Presbyterians, Episcopalians, Methodists, etc., who have always sent “missionaries” to that part of the world, and thus converted people to a kind of Christian liberalism, largely omitting the Bible.

We Christian supporters of Israel have to immediately “divest” ourselves from the Presbyterian Church USA denomination and anyone else who divests from Israel. We must clarify for the present world the difference between Bible reading, Christ-confessing true believers and politically correct organizations calling themselves Christians. Sincere love of Israel seems to be a decisive test.

The real believers, especially among these liberal denominations, need to speak out in this manner. Ultimately, that’s how churches divide, and finally, new denominations are born. (Although we should not have denominations at all. As Scripture tells us: We are not to be “one of Apollos, one of Cephas, or one of Paul.” We are to be totally united in Christ.)

The behavior of non-Bible believing Christians is becoming a real concern. The Presbyterian Church USA has not only divested from Israel, but has also held meetings with Hezbollah officials. These Presbyterian leaders ended up praising the Hezbollah murderers and, of course, criticizing the Promised Land and the Chosen People. Elder Ronald Stone stated, “We treasure the precious words of Hezbollah and your expression of good will toward the American people.” (Hezbollah killed 240 U.S. Marines in the Beirut barracks bombing.) Elder Stone also said, “As an elder of our church, I’d like to say that according to my recent experience, relations and conversations with Islamic leaders are a lot easier than dealings and dialogue with Jewish leaders.”

My response is “Tell it to the Judge” (and, in this case, the Judge will be the King of the Jews). There are simply no words to describe how utterly Satanic it is for people identifying themselves with Christianity to praise terrorists totally bent on destroying that faith, to say nothing of destroying the Holy Land. In no way can real believers be connected anymore with the individuals who committed this awful sin in the name of their denomination.

What name one calls oneself is very important. Consider the situation in Israel. There are Arabs who are legitimate citizens of Israel, who are represented in parliament and who are, in many cases, agreeable citizens of the land. Then there are other Arabs calling themselves “Palestinians,” who, like immigrants in the U.S.A., include both legal and illegal aliens of different persuasions toward their host country. Finally, there are the Israeli Jews, who have been there, at least in part, since the time of Abraham, and have ownership of the land, according to Scripture. The confusion comes when an Arab describes himself as “born in Israel,” which can be quite true, and then goes on as if he were Jewish.

Recently, I cited the case of a donor who wished to get his donation to the Jews of Israel and so called the ministry of Pastor Benny Hinn. The donor told me he thought Hinn was Jewish because he claimed to be a native of Israel, which is true. But Rev. Hinn never claimed to be Jewish. That was assumed due to his birth in Jaffa, Israel.

In the same manner, a perfectly faithful evangelical born-again believer in the Presbyterian Church USA denomination might feel accused of divesting from Israel. And indeed, his leadership has done that. But he himself is not involved, and we should never confuse these very different sorts of “Christians.”

And so, finally, an accurate term, such as Bible Christians, or Born Again Believers, or True Believers, or whatever, must be adopted and in no way be confused with these liberal church boards and their terrible mistakes.

Some of those misguided leaders may be mourning for Yasser Arafat. I can only say that, like many a terrorist dictator, he lived too long. In the past four years, when he concocted an Intifada to cover his grievous error at Camp David, there were at least 3,000 Israeli casualties. To understand just how devastating the hatred of one psychotic individual can be, one has only to realize what 3,000 Israelis were able to do with Pentecost. This is not to mention his 40 years of ordering the deaths of Israelis, his own people, Americans, Jordanians, Lebanese, Tunisians, etc. With news of sympathetic Arab doctors rushing to his side, one wonders if they aren’t thinking, “If only we could save him, a few more innocent civilians can yet be killed.” He must, at this point, be greeting in hell so many adults and children that he convinced to be suicide bombers. He promised them paradise, but Biblically they will get the same reward as he himself. He was a simply terrible human being, and I can say no more than that.

Take the opportunity to discuss these things in person with me. Sandra and I will be in Florida throughout the months of January and February. We would love to serve your church, so please contact Claudia as soon as possible at 817-417-0059 to make arrangements.

Our tour of the Holy Land Experience, the Israel theme park in Orlando, will be held on New Year’s weekend, December 31–January 2. This should be a fine New Year’s party with excellent Christian fellowship and a time of spiritual learning!

And please make your plans early for our upcoming spring tours. The airlines are being overwhelmed with tourists. The Deluxe Tour of Israel is scheduled from March 13–23, and the Grand Petra Tour to Israel and Petra is from March 13–27. A special feature of our March tour will be a Volunteer Day of visiting and helping out with a Christian ministry or possibly the Israeli Army (far from the front lines). Plans are underway!

For more information on all of our upcoming tours, please call Tony at 214-696-9760 during business hours or 1-800-WONDERS (1-800-966-3377) anytime for a brochure.

My birthday is December 3. A contribution to this ministry is the kindest way I can imagine to wish me a happy birthday. And as always, pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
