The Jewish roots of Christianity

Highlighting: OFF ON

Myles & Katharine Weiss

Dear Friend,

Katharine and I just returned from the new Zola Levitt Presents studio in Fort Worth, Texas where we refined our upcoming series Jerusalem: Ancient Gates/Future Glory. For this relevant teaching, Katharine and I engaged with archaeologists, historians, Christian Zionists, and Jewish Believers in Israel. The gates of the Old City have rich history and colorful contemporary stories, which point us to the glorious future with the King of Kings.

You will have an opportunity to see Katharine and me respond to several letters on the air or at www.levitt.tv, one way we reach out to make personal contact with you, our viewers and readers. What an honor it is for us to do the Lord’s work!

We cherish The Great Commission; we value the message of Yeshua and Israel; and we are truly grateful for your partnership. Our campaign to transform people’s hearts and minds and prepare them for the days ahead foresees those days getting socially darker while the Light of Yeshua shines brighter.

After seeing the mind-boggling movie about Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, Lone Survivor (twice!), I felt compelled to read his book in order to fact-check Hollywood’s version. If you are unfamiliar with his heroic tale, it recounts the summer of 2005 “Operation Red Wings” disaster that cost the lives of 19 U.S. military heroes in the mountains of Afghanistan.

The movie is not for everyone. I learned long ago as a pastor/rabbi/therapist NOT to recommend films to others, especially when I had seen only the sanitized G-rated airline version. To my shock and theirs, films often have more graphic content when viewed on terra firma.

To my delight, Lone Survivor followed the book, with none of Hollywood’s occasional anti-American, anti-military, anti-Christian bias. What a relief. Our navy and these brave, young men make a daunting investment in their training and development. I shudder to think of our military training Middle East “militants” to be soldiers of similar caliber. The thought of equipping sworn enemies of Israel with the nearly superhuman skills and combat readiness of SEALs makes me grit my teeth. We God-fearing Americans are certain that an all-Muslim military in a Jew-hating state abutting Israel would use such training only for defensive and internal security, right … right?!?

You and I must continue to pray!

SEALs are “disciples,” learners, and students in Spirit, soul and body. Truly, they make our daily sacrifices and woes as civilians seem petty. I think Lone Survivor would be a tremendous addition to Bible college and seminary curricula. (Just kidding; please don’t say I recommended that movie!—The uncut film has too much rough language and realistic violence.) However, adding the sanitized version to seminary curricula could put future pastors’ dedication to Yeshua in perspective. Our SEALs pay the price. Are you and I willing to do the same?

As the writer to the first-century Messianics penned:

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

What a calling! Believers have received the privilege of proclaiming the truth of our Creator to a fallen and desperate humanity. Is anything more meaningful? Marcus Luttrell’s life and service (along with that of his fallen comrades) inspire me to keep following Jesus, “no matter what.”

Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell

Interestingly, one aspect of Luttrell’s tale that the movie omitted is salient for the community of faith. After Marcus and his team members battled for their lives in the mountains of Afghanistan, the military listed them as MIA (missing in action). Marcus was the only one remaining alive, and his family did not know it. At their East Texas family ranch, a spontaneous gathering of friends, neighbors, and military personnel held a prayer vigil for almost a week. Day and night they shared tears and prayers and also sang hymns and military songs. They ate together and slept all over the property. Over 300 people were there at times. Everyone cooked, cleaned, supported Marcus’s parents, and waited for word of his condition.

To their predictable shame, the major news outlets gave up and spoke of the boys as “lost,” broadcasting and fomenting despair. Still, the prayers on the Texas plain continued unabated, spurred on by Morgan, Marcus’s identical twin brother and also a SEAL. Morgan stated unequivocally that he was “in touch” with Marcus in that spooky, twin-like spiritual realm—that he would “know” if Marcus were dead, but he could still “feel” him. During the brutal firefight, Marcus also recounts that he knew without a doubt that God had miraculously kept his rifle nearby him as he tumbled down the granite cliffs of the Hindu Kush … four times.

The presence and keeping power of the Lord is woven through the SEAL’s heroic testimony. Hollywood omitted the overt God element of the story. However, God’s covert testimony is seen through the men’s love and dedication.

That spiritual ingredient made the book a more compelling version of the story. It also illuminated the vast gap between the American people and our politically correct media. People of faith still exist, and they believe in God and God’s vision for Zion. That inspirational realization stirred in me the importance of accurate reporting in these days of increasing deception.

Our ministry works hard to scrutinize factual and useful information for you. This month’s episodes of Zola Levitt Presents draw on the biblical account of Abraham’s descendants. Sons of Promise: Isaac and Jacob connects the Abrahamic Covenant to the myriad blessings the modern world receives through Israel and the Jewish people.

In spite of the world’s anti-Semitic and anti-Israel stance, ZLM continues to lift up the truth and the Good News. Viewers will feast in August on the following programs that are produced to proclaim God’s covenant love and His plan:

The Bridegroom and the Bride.
Isaac and Rebekah’s love for each other represents that of Yeshua and the Bride of Messiah. Myles interviews Saul Singer, co-author of Start-up Nation; Zola’s son Mark converses with a Jewish National Fund spokesman. Through JNF, ZLM has planted more than a forest of trees in Israel.
Blessing, Covenant, Contention.
The conflict between Ishmael and Isaac precedes the contention between Jacob and Esau. Mark interviews an archaeologist digging near the ancient City of David, one of the most important digs of our day.
Mayim B’sason (Water from the Wells of Salvation).
In the face of famine, Isaac re-digs Abraham’s wells, and God confirms His eternal covenant with the Hebrew people. Myles and Katharine speak with the Lone Soldiers, Jewish youth who leave the comfort of their foreign homes to serve in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This program is a moving tribute to our young people and their love for Israel.
Brothers and Birthrights.
The struggle of Jacob and Esau over their destinies began in the womb and continues to our day. Mark talks with Levitt Letter columnist and Our Man in Haifa, Eitan Shishkoff. His Tents of Mercy ministry comforts many new immigrants in Israel with physical relief and the Word of the Lord. Eitan is a respected and loved leader in the Israeli community of faith.
The Promise of Heaven Touches Earth.
In spite of Esau’s murderous rage, Jacob dreams of a heavenly touch. God’s Covenant continues into the third generation. Myles and Katharine interview young Israeli Messianic leaders. In this program, the hope of Israel is embodied in the dedication of these future leaders.

Please let us know how this television series impacts you. Katharine and I love your correspondence. Better yet, let’s talk in person. Come with us to Israel. Experience the apple of God’s eye for yourself!

Whether Katharine and I see you in Israel, over the airwaves or “over there,” we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We believe deeply in this work, and we cannot accomplish the tasks at hand without your prayers and contributions.

After many months of budgetary constraints, we have the green light to produce a timely series on Joseph, the patriarch and son of Jacob. “Timely” because Joseph provides a supremely Jewish view of Messiah. Broadcasting it will cause controversy, no doubt (what’s new?), but the parallels with Jesus are formidable. Now more than ever, we want to clarify the connection between Jews and Yeshua. Not only for the Gospel’s sake, but also to repel the sinister forces of Replacement Theology that continually batter the Church.

Together, you and this ministry are making a difference. Please consider a special gift of funds to help us create this new, Bible-based, dramatic retelling of Joseph’s life, filmed on location in Israel. Blessings, and please remember—Sha’alu Shalom Yerushalayim—Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6).

Your brother and messenger,
Myles Myles

P.S. To my mind, you are heroes for standing with Yeshua and Israel!
